Couldn't the radio programs be given to the Internet Archive so that they would be available to everyone without having to purchase them as CDs? I would love to listen to the radio shows again but I don't think I would be willing to buy CDs.

Thanks for considering this idea.

I was DeKoven's assistant for the 7 years of his life. I probably knew him better than anyone except his wife and relatives and Gertrude Feltz. If you have any questions about him you can write to me at 177 Union St. Montgomery, NY 12549. If I can answer your questions I will.

I've looked at the U. Wyoming site and can find no evidence of show availability, on CD or otherwise. Anyone know whether shows are available?

Thanks

Howard

I emailed the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming regarding acquiring CDs of 'DeKoven Presents' programs, and here's the reply I received:

Thank you for contacting the American Heritage Center, the archive of the University of Wyoming, with your request for information about the Seymour DeKoven Collection. One of the national collecting areas of the American Heritage Center, is radio programming, so that is how this collection came to be housed here. Indeed, these programs are available to purchase. We have the ability to convert the old reel-to-reel programs to CD and mail those to you. The cost to transfer material is $30 per hour. As these programs are just under one hour each (55 minutes, I believe), we offer two programs for $30. There is a very modest shipping charge just to cover the actual cost of mailing.

Mr. DeKoven reused tape boxes so many times that it is difficult to know what program is what without actually listening to the program. This is to say, each tape box has many programs listed on it, as well as many program dates and it is difficult to know what, if any of those listings actually reflects the content of the actual tape within a given box. As a result, we simply offer a selection of programs (a sort of grab bag, if you will.)

Once I know how many programs you want, I can generate an invoice that you can pay on. We accept check or money order, if you wish to use a Visa or MasterCard, you can pay online via our main website. Once payment is received we can ship the CDs.

I was one of DeKoven's engineers in the late 60's at WRFM. Others included Richard Koziol and (according to DeKoven himself) Wendy Carlos of "Switched on Bach" fame. DeKoven would use old tapes and cut them up to insert new comments and musical selections to create new broadcasts. My job was to splice tapes according to his instructions. It is a miracle that any tapes still exist!! I have copies of LPs that were recorded of his live concerts. I haven't listened to them in decades. If I can find them, I will post mp3s of them on this site for educational purposes only (fair use under the US copyright law). He was quite a character!!!

That would be wonderful! It's too bad that the availability of his show archive is "restricted." Sounds like a great project for a music student with a dedicated love for the music and man. Anything that would be freely available would benefit a lot of us who remember listening to him before we pass on........

I would LOVE to get any mp3's or other formats. I used to listen on WAWZ-FM 99.1 in Zarephath, NJ.
